5 Days Rwanda safari Gorillas, Golden monkeys, and Lake Kivu, this 5-day Rwanda safari package combines different activities within a short time in Rwanda. It involves a brief Kigali city tour where you will visit some of the historical, cultural, educational, and entertaining sites in the city. proceeding to Volcanoes National Park gets you close interaction with the gentle human cousins in their natural home (mountain gorillas ),  golden monkeys, another group of endangered primates, and cultural interactions in the Gorilla Guardian Village, commonly referred to as Ib’yiwachu Cultural Center.

After observing the primates,   this 5 days safari includes a visit to Lake Kivu, a large freshwater body that lies between Rwanda and Congo.  While on the lake, enjoy peaceful and relaxing activities, including boat trips, island hopping, swimming,  canoeing, among others. As you wind up your safari, visit a coffee processing plant to see,  learn and taste fresh Rwanda coffee.  This trip allows appreciate the beauty of Rwanda and the hospitable natives.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1:Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Following your arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will give a short briefing about the safari.  Start your 5-day gorillas, golden monkeys, and Lake Kivu safari with a visit to the Kigali genocide memorial site and Kimironko market.

After lunch,  set off for Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes hours towards the northwestern to Musanze with a scenic drive through the terraced hills of Rwanda.

Day 2: Gorilla tracking and Ib’yiwachu Cultural Visit.

You will get up early, eat breakfast by 6.30 a.m., and report to the park office in Kinigi for group allocation and a briefing on the gorilla tracking excursion. Following that, you will be transferred to the base of the Virunga Mountains to begin your gorilla trekking adventure for an unforgettable gorilla experience.

After the trek, return to the hotel for lunch and later visit the Ib’yiwachu cultural center to enjoy more of Rwandan culture and tradition through stories, dances and drums.

Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu

Wake up early, drive to the park center for another early morning briefing on golden monkeys. Golden monkeys are also listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). They are cute and playful primates with golden coats. Tracking them doesn’t take so long when compared to gorillas; you should expect to be back at the lodge at midday. After lunch,  check out of the lodge and to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi. Lake Kivu is a large freshwater lake that is shared by both Rwanda and Congo. On arrival, check into the accommodation. Later go for some relaxation activities at the lake shore.  You can engage in swimming. Canoeing or visiting the fishing villages.

Day 4: Full day Lake Kivu exploration

Wake up for a morning breakfast, as you enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Later, get into a boat for a guided exploration of the lake. Spend the day visiting the different islands on the lake. You can visit Napoleon Island, a home to fruit bats, where you can participate in hiking and birding, Amahoro Island, where you get to interact with local fishermen, or any other island, depending on the day’s schedule. Take time to explore and relax, later sail back to the mainland  then back to the accommodation

Day 5: Coffee plantation visit and transfer to Kigali

Get up at your leisure, check out of the accommodation, and meet your guide. Head out for a coffee tour to Kinunu coffee washing station. Learn more about coffee production, processing, and packaging. Wind up your visit with a tasting of a hot cup of Rwandan coffee. you can buy some of the already packaged coffee as take-home.    After the visit, find a good eatery, have lunch, and return to Kigali. Drop off will either be at your hotel in Kigali or at Kigali International Airport to catch your flight back home.
