2 Days Akagera National park wildlife experience with a Night game drive.

This two-day visit to Akagera National Park is the best way to encounter wildlife. Akagera National Park is the only Savannah park in Rwanda where we can go on both day and night game drives in safari cars that are specifically designed for savanna parks and all kind of harsh terrain. Many of big mammals, significantly the big five, live in the park. The most common animals are the lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, elephants, and hippos, all of which are perfect for great photo opportunities.

To enable people, get involved in wildlife protection, and conservation, the park has recently offered community tours to the public, and with the introduction of lions, and rhinos the number of the “Big 5” is rapidly increasing.  This 2 days Akagera park experience starts and ends in Kigali.

Trip details

Day 1: Kigali City tour- transfer to Akagera – night game drive

After a yummy breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, meet you guide and proceed for brief Kigali city tour. Visit   some of the iconic places like the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and Kimironko market. By1pm, you must have finished your lunch and then set off for 2.5 hours drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills and the stunning countryside to Akagera National Park. On arrival, check in your hotel for relaxation.

At 5:30 pm, embark on a night game drive that must be conducted with the leadership of a park ranger guide. The drive takes 2 to 2.5hours, watch the beautiful sunset, and expects spots of different nocturnals especially the carnivores hunting the weaking herbivores. Animals that can be seen include, lions, hyenas, the rare leopards, civets, bush babies, genets and many other wildlife that always feed at night. After your experience, head to your accommodation’s

Day 2: Morning boat cruise – game drive and return to Kigali.

Rise for breakfast and then set off for a morning boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Join the cruise that starts at 9 am and lasts for 1.5 hours. Expect to see aquatic creatures including crocodiles, hippos and birds. After the boat trip, return to the hotel, checkout and drive towards the Kilala plains where most wild animals in this park can be spotted. you will see more wildlife especially the day grazers including buffalos, zebras, giraffes and many antelope species. After your exploration, leave the park through the northern gate and drive back to Kigali. Drop off will be at the location of your choice, the hotel or the airport.
