This 5-day Rwanda safari provides opportune moments for travelers to enjoy Akagera National Park and the twin lakes located at the base of Mount Mhabura, one of the five volcanoes that make up Volcanoes National Park.
Akagera National Park offers great opportunities to witness the big five, the dramatic savannas, dotted scenic lakes, swamps, and woodlands.
The twin lakes are a result of the volcanic eruption of Mount Sabinyo, which created two close, beautiful lakes. This visit will give you a chance to explore the beauty of these lakes and participate in different activities on and in the areas around the lakes.

Day 1:Arrival and transfer to Akagera National Park- Night game drive
This Rwanda safari begins in Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savanna park. On arrival, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the trip, take you to a nice restaurant for breakfast, and then you set off for Akagera. The journey takes two and a half hours from Kigali. Along the way, you shall stop at Nyakarambi Village to view the Imigongo cow dung paintings. At this place, the dung is dried and mixed with colours from organic material to make the paintings so vibrant and attractive.
Upon arrival, check into the lodge for a late lunch. At 7 pm, set out on a night game drive with the park rangers. Expect to see nocturnal animals emerging from their hideouts to search for prey. Animals you can spot include leopard, jackals, civets, bushbabies, mongoose lions and hyenas. After a 2–3-hour drive, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2:Game drive and boat cruise
After breakfast, take a game drive around the park where you will encounter animals like elephants and buffalo, zebras, impalas, waterbucks, topis, baboons, giraffes, cape elands, and many more. Later, return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, you will take a boat trip on Lake Ihema, where you are likely to spot water birds such as the rare shoebill stork, egrets, ibises, and herons. You additionally observe hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a variety of other land animals such as antelopes, elephants, and buffaloes that come to drink water at the shores.

Day 3:Walk the line experience and transfer to Musanze and connect to the twin lakes
After an early morning breakfast, join a local community guide for the walk the line tour, which involves exploring the park on foot along the 7-kilometer perimeter fence. This experience exposes you to beautiful wildlife, including different plant species and small animals that cannot be spotted while on a game drive. The walk lasts for 2 hours. After the walk. Return to the lodge, check out, and travel to Kigali, where you will have lunch. After lunch, travel to Musanze and then connect to the twin lakes area, where you will have dinner and overnight at the accommodation.
Day 4:Full day twin lakes exploration
After breakfast, go to the Twin Lakes to engage in different activities. Some of them include a boat cruise that will allow you to enjoy the cool breeze and watch several bird species. alternatively, you can engage in hiking along trails in the lush landscapes and small local villages to experience the panoramic views of the area overlooking both the lakes and the nearby volcanoes.
If you are interested in Rwanda’s culture, visit the nearby villages to engage with the locals for an experience of traditional Rwandan music, dance, and crafts, gaining insight into the area’s heritage and way of life. You can participate in community-led activities, such as fishing or learning about agriculture, which provide a direct connection to the local lifestyle. After the day’s exploration, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali- city tour and departure
After an early morning breakfast at your camp/hotel, check out and travel to Kigali. On arrival, engage in a brief Kigali city tour, where you will visit the Kigali genocide Memorial Museum, Kimironko market, and craft centres. Lunch will be in Kigali. Drop oof with be either at your hotel or Kigali international airport.
