14 Days Rwanda Wildlife and Cultural Safari

On this 14-days Rwanda wildlife and Cultural Safari, soak in the stunning beauty of the “land of a thousand hills.” As you travel from the city through the hilly roads, this Rwanda safari provides you a variety of Rwandan landscapes and backgrounds. Tour a variety of savannah, woodland, and mountainous national parks. You will hike with gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, Chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest,  and also explore Lake Kivu. As you participate in  various activities, spend moretime with Rwandan natives for more knowledge about culture and tradition.

Arrival Arrival at Kigali international airport, check with the immigrations, meet and greet your guide, and transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Accommodation at Hotel des Mille Collines
     2 Kigali City tour (Independent Day) Visit iconic places in Kigali including, Kigali Genocide Memorial, Kimironko Market and walk in the car free zone. Overnight at Hotel des Mille Collines.
     3 Akagera National Park Drive to Akagera National Park, have an afternoon boat cruise to witness aquatic life like hippos and crocodiles, enjoy a night game drive to spot nocturnal wildlife like the elusive leopards, lion, civets, bush babies among others. Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.
      4 Akagera National Park Enjoy game drives starting in the southern sector towards the north spotting wildlife: elephants, zebras, antelopes, rhinos giraffes and several bird species. spend more hours in the Kilala plains and later return to Kigali. Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.
      5 Explore Kigali (Independent Day) Spend a day at Nyamirambo Women’s Centre. Participate in local food preparation (cooking class) or Embark on the Mount Kigali hike, interact with the locals and enjoy horse riding at Fazhenda Senga Horse riding school. Accommodation at: Hotel Des Mille Collines.
      6 Journey to Nyungwe Forest Embark on 5-6 hours journey to Nyungwe National Park, home to chimpanzees and other 13 primate species. Possible stopovers at Kings palace Nyanza and ethnographic Museum for Rwanda’s monarchial, royal and architectural l history. Accommodation at Nyungwe Hilltop View  Hotel.
      7 Nyungwe Forest National Park

(Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk)

Following an early morning breakfast, meet the park guides at the park center for  briefing about  the chimpanzee trekking adventure. You are allowed to watch them for one hour but the whole experience takes 3-4 hours.

In the afternoon embark  on the canopy walk to have an aerial view of the park and some animals that dwell in the dense forest canopy like the monkeys and birds. After the 2 hours canopy walk, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

      8 Nyungwe Forest National Park

(Isumo waterfall hike)

After breakfast, proceed to the park centre for a briefing about the hike to the waterfall. Along the trail, you will have the opportunity to discover various tree species, see some animals and enjoy birdwatching until you reach the waterfall located inside the jungle of Nyungwe NP. Feel free to have photography as you like before leaving the forest. The hike takes 4 – 4.5hours depending on your pace.

Spend the afternoon relaxing at the accommodation.  Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Hilltop View Hotel.

     9 Nyungwe Forest National Park

(Gisakura tea estate experience)

Have breakfast, then drive to Gisakura Tea Estate to witness the tea-making process. Observe and learn how tea is harvested, stored, processed and packaged for domestic sale and exportation. Wind up your tour with a taste of Rwanda- made tea and buy some of the packed tea for take home. After lunch travel to Lake Kivu (Kibuye). Accommodation at
       10 Lake Kivu (Independent Day) Spend the whole day relaxing at the lakeshores. You can enjoy relaxational activities like swimming, sun bathing or canoeing.

Optional: night fishing experience. Accommodation at Morriah Hill resort

     11 Lake Kivu Kayak Adventure with Napoleon Island visit On this day, take a boat trip to explore the Napoleon Island to see the fruit bats.  Discover other islands, interact with the local fishing villages and beaches ideal for picnics.

Take a sunset cruise as you return to the shores. Accommodation at Morriah Hill resort

     12 Coffee Tour and Transfer to Kigali After a relaxed breakfast, visit Kinunu coffee washing station to witness and learn about coffee, farm to cup process. After the experience, taste a cup of Rwanda’s fresh coffee, buy some for take home and travel to Kigali. Accommodation at: Hotel Des Mille Collines
      13 Kigali (Independent Day)

Full day in Kigali

 Visit the places missed out on day 2 and 5, Nyamata and Ntarama genocide memorial sites, Nyandungu Eco Park, and craft centres for souvenirs. Accommodation at: Hotel Des Mille Collines
       14 Kigali (Independent Day)

Departure

 Transfer to international airport for your flight back home, carrying  memories of your 14 days Rwanda wildlife and cultural experience.
