Cycling along the Congo- Nile Divide trail

The journey along the trail
The trail route from Rubavu via Gishwati, Kibuye to Rusizi is both rewarding and challenging for hikers and cyclists. Accommodations in Kibuye:
Kibuye (Karongi) marks the mid-way of the trail. this place is so popular for overnight stopovers. many accommodations are found in this shore town, ranging from luxury, midrange, budget, guest houses and camping sites. some of these include, Rwiza Village, Robero Kivu Resort, Inzonzi Eco Camp, Kay sun Hotel, Spa Shallum, Macheo Eco Lodge and camping, Forest of Hope Guesthouse and Campsite among others.
Kamembe accommodations: This is the southern end that brings you to the final part of the trail. this place is closer to the border with Congo and offers mainly mid range and luxury accommodations and a few budget guest houses. Places to rent bikes along the Congo Nile trail
If you want to set off ready from Kigali your starting point of your cycling adventure, you can decide to rent a bike in Kigali with Kigali Bike Tours or Kigali Rides. Load your bike into your vehicle and set off with your driver guide who will follow behind while driving as you cycle.
In Kigali, Self Drive Rwanda, a recognised tour operator, can organise logistics, bikes and transportation to the trail head and remain with you until the end. (Guided riding).
In Gisenyi, the main starting point of the trail, several operators rent bikes. Some of them include, Rwanda Adventures Ltd, Cycle Rwanda Tours and Travels, and Hillside Rwanda Cycle Tours.
In Karongi (Kibuye), the mid point of the trail, bike rental operators include Ibirwa Kivu Boat Tours, Blue Monkey Tours Rwanda, etc… These always target tourists who wish to conquer only half of the trail (2-3-4 days cycling experience).
In Nyamashekye, along the trail, there are few bike rentals, but cyclists are offered guidance and local support where possible
