3 days self-drive and camping safari in Akagera National Park.

Our 3 days self-drive and camping safari in Akagera National Park,  takes you to Rwanda’s most popular savannah park and wildlife conservation area that provides the best self-drive and guided game drive experiences. This park is located in the Eastern region of the country, close to the Tanzania border, covering over 433 square miles. It is Rwanda’s only savanna park that derives its name from the Kagera River that flows through it and feeds different lakes within the park before releasing into Lake Victoria.

Akagera National Park comprises vast savannah grasslands, woodlands, undulating plains, swamps, and stretching water bodies. This park was founded in 1934 and was home to several animal species. however, it experienced a great setback during the 1994 genocide when most animals were killed, and part of it was occupied by the locals who were left homeless after the genocide.

Today, the Rwanda government has made all efforts to restore the park by introducing different animal species, which has led to their multiplication, thus leading to a boost of tourism both locally and internationally. Many people today look at the Akagera as the most convenient safari destination to spot the most sought-after animals,” the big five,” and other wildlife creatures.

Since our safari is self-driving with camping, you will have to clear with the park authorities for entry, and check into your camping grounds.  If you do not have camping gear, you will rent it from the camp authorities. You will enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, either self-guided or official guided game drives in the park.

It is always good to move with a park guide because they know all the park corners and the best spots for viewing wildlife.
