Detailed Itinerary for the 9 days Rwanda Burundi safari.
Day 1:Arrival in Kigali – Kigali city tour
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our representative, outside the airport arrivals section, you will be transferred to the hotel for breakfast then later go on the Kigali city tour where you visit some places like Kigali Genocide memorial, Kimironko market, and any craft centres within the city .
Dinner and over night at Hotel Chezlando.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
After an early morning breakfast, set off to the southern part of Rwanda on 5-6 hours drive to Nyungwe National Park. stopping en route at the Royal Palace Museum in the Southern Province, an excellent opportunity to explore Rwanda’s cultural heritage and Murambi genocide memorial for information about the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Enjoy an en-route lunch before continuing to Nyungwe National Park. On arrival, check in, relax at the hotel as you prepare for the next day’s activity.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy Walk
After an early start with a packed breakfast, head to Uwinka visitor center for a briefing about the chimpanzee trekking excursion. Later join other trekkers with the leadership of park guides into the heart of the Nyungwe rainforest for chimpanzee trekking. This lush forest is renowned for its 13 species of primates, offering a rare chance to observe chimpanzees and other endangered primates in their natural habitat. You will spend an unforgettable hour observing these fascinating creatures and return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, return to the park reception for the canopy walk adventure, a highlight of your Nyungwe Forest safari tour. The 160-meter-long suspended bridge offers stunning views of the lush montane rainforest from 70 meters above the forest floor. You are also exposed to views of various wildlife that spend most of their time in the forest canopy, such as birds and monkeys. After the 2hours walk on the suspended walkway, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Burundi via Tanzania.
After an early morning break fast, with your packed lunch, snacks and water, setoff for a full day drive to Burundi. You will cross to Tanzania via Rusumo border and later cross from Tanzania to Burundi at Kobero/ Kabanga border. Arrival in Bujumbura will be in the late evening hours, check into the accommodation for dinner and night stay.

Day 5: Hiking in Rusizi National Park and Boat cruise
After an early morning breakfast, drive to Rusizi national park which is about 20 minutes away from Bujumbura. Engage in a guided nature walk through the park where you will be exposed to different wild creatures. Visit the living museum and the memorial stone of the meeting of the explorers David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley. Enjoy a boat ride to explore more habitats including hippos, crocodiles and birds.
In the afternoon, visit different places in the city like the Independence square, the place of unity “Ubumwe”, and later return to the accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Visit the source of the Nile (Karera waterfalls)
Have breakfast and then drive in the southern direction to the source of the Nile in Bururi, passing through the beautiful scenery and large tea plantations. Have your camera ready for a spectacular experience of the Karera waterfalls. Enjoy hiking around the falls and lately drive to the accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 7:Gishora drum Sanctuary – Gitega Museum
On this day, visit Gitega city for historical and cultural facts about Burundi. You will see the colonial architecture of this former capital as well as the ethnographic and archaeological artifacts at the National Museum of Gitega. Then visit Boma, the former residence of the German governor before independence. After that, continue to the popular Gishora drum sanctuary to witness the drummers’ and dancers’ performance. This is a place where Burundi’s traditions are brought to life. With smiles and admiration of the day’s experience, you will return to Bujumbura.

Day 8: Hiking in Kibira National Park.
After an early breakfast, drive to Kibira National Park. The adventure begins at the at the park gate where you leave your car and join the park guides on a guided forest walk. The hike offers views of varied vegetation types and expect to see the black and white colobus monkeys, baboons and chimpanzees as they are the major in habitats of the park. You will also enjoy scenic lush hills covered by tea plantations and the breathtaking landscape surrounding the park.
