Chimpanzee Tracking Process

Chimpanzee tracking is a very exciting safari activity to take on while on vacation holiday in Rwanda. The activity requires you to transfer to the park head quarters where you will be briefed about the Dos and Don’ts around the amazing chimpanzees in the forest.

Chimpanzee Tracking Nyungwe

After the briefing, you will transfer with an experienced guide into the forest to track the chimpanzees for a period of 2-4 hours in groups of 6-8 and when you meet them, you will spend with them all the time you wish taking numerous photos to keep for memories. You will spot these breast feeding, copulating, patrolling, playing, leading, hunting etc an experience that is so remarkable and unique.

Chimpanzees and the Tracking Permit

The Chimpanzees live in communities of 10 individuals and these are led by a dominant male Chimpanzee called the Alpha Male followed by adult females which are also followed by the young chimpanzees/ juveniles. They are fond of relocating from one place to another through jumping among the tree branches with in the forest. These are not fully habituated hence are shy when approached by humans although portray a lot of curiosity and eagerness every time a human gets closer/ intact. The chimpanzee Tracking permit costs US $90 per person interested in chimpanzee tracking at Nyungwe Forest.

In order to spot these primates very well, visitors are advised to visit Nyungwe forest National Park during the wet season since during this period there is plenty of food for the primates to feed on hence forth reducing their movements from one destination to another like in the dry season.
